March 17th is the day of Saint Patrick celebration. Sain Patrick is the Patron Saint of Ireland. In view of this event, many cigar manufacturers offer products with an unmistakable green color.

This color is the typical one of the candela wrappers  (also called “double claro” or “american market selection”) obtained by a process that fixes the green of the chlorophyll on the leaves using fire (fire cured) thus creating a chemical reaction, a kind of polymerization.

Examples are the Black Market Filthy Hooligan, La Palina Fuego Verde and Camacho Candela.

Fuego Verde is available in a single size: 50 x 150 mm (5,9″) and is made of an Honduras wrapper and both binder and filler from Nicaragua. It is made in limited quantities of 500 boxes, containing each 20 cigars. They will be sold for around $ 7.50 each one.

Camacho Candela is a Robusto: 50 x 127 mm (5″). Its blend is Hondurian and the wrapper chosen is a Criollo candela. Produced by Diadema Cigars de Honduras SA in only 3,000 boxes of 25 units, it will be sold for $ 8 per single cigar.

Other producers in the past have commercialized cigars wrapped in candela leaves; among the most famouse, there were Illusion Candela (hl, 88 e 888), Arturo Fuente 8-5-8 Candela, La Flor Dominicana Double Claro and Viaje White Label Project (WLP) Candela.
