The shiny wrapper has a Colorado tonality. Very smooth the touch, with little evident veining. Although it is a mammoth of a cigar, the filling seemed lighter then expected.

Royal Danish Single Blend Vintage Edition Fat Dane: the cold draw is dominated by hazelnut flavors, with hints of vanilla and cocoa. Once lit, the amount of smoke is not excessive, albeit dense and almost chewable.

The opening delivers an evident and very intense sweet flavor, supported by delicate hints of coffee, cocoa and wood, that during the first third disappear, leaving their place to balsamic and citrus notes. The strength is mild (1/5).

The sweetness diminishes slightly in the second third, leaving a barely perceptible salty flavor. The aromatic palate settles into a well defined balsamic notes, with hints of spices and wood. The strength increases to a medium level (3/5). It is advised to keep the lighter within reach during the smoking, since the burn line is irregular. The ash isn’t perfect as well, resulting to be quite brittle.

In the last third, the sweetness and saltiness become stable and equally intense, while the final part is aromatically a long continuation of the central section, with wood, spices (more pronounced) and notes of almond and hazelnut. During the the last puffs the smokes becomes slightly astringent. The strength stays stable (3/5).

Overall, the Fat Dane results to be a very balanced and pleasant cigar, while monotone in complexity, intensity, evolution and persistence. Certainly the expectations for this mammoth were higher. The constant irregularity of the burn and the correcting that comes with it, gets annoying for the smoker.
