La Flor Dominicana 1994 Conga: notes of wood, with light peppery nuances, are perceptible in the cold draw. The base is salty and the cigar opens up with wood.
First third opens with notes of pepper accompanied by a bitter/salty/sweet mix, which is reminiscing of salted caramel. Progressing, cocoa and coffee appear, with wood in the background. Strength is medium-light (2,5/5).
The second third reproposes cocoa and delicate spices; suddenly a note of licorice root appears and the strength increases slightly (3/5).
In the final third, the omnipresent cocoa reappears now arm in arm with earth. Nuances of leather, with black pepper in the background, appear. Strength increases further, becoming medium plus (3,5/5).
Overall, a cigar that develops a well outlined aromatic palette, equipped with a discrete complexity. Strength is always under control. The smoke is creamy, of medium volume. The marble colored ash falls after the midway point; combustion, albeit slightly irregular, doesn’t create a problem and allows a finish without having to correct or relight the cigar. Post smoke, mild in persistence, bring flavors of tobacco, cocoa and spices back to the palate.
