Epic Maduro Lancero

Epic Maduro Lancero 1600 900 Giuseppe Mitolo

The Epic Maduro Lancero is a product made by the brand of the same name, created in 2010 by Dean Parsons who, after 25 years of passion for cigars, decided to start his own production in the Dominican Republic, entrusting the manufacturing to the Charles Fairmon Factory, in Santiago de los Caballeros.

The brand, in addition to special releases and reservas, has four core lines, among which is the Maduro line, which consists of five sizes. For the blend of this line, a Brazilian Arapiraca wrapper is used as a Cameroon binder and fillers of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos. The cigars are sold in boxes of 20.

The cigar is rolled in an opaque Maduro Oscuro wrapper. To the touch, the leaf is rough with accentuated veins. With a tactile examination, you can perceive some gaps in the filler reflected in a relatively open draw. The general construction is decent.

Epic Maduro Lancero: very pronounced hints of earth are perceptible in the cold draw, followed by less intense cocoa and citrus notes.

Once lit, the smoke is decidedly sapid, with a slightly sweet component. It expresses marked mineral, coffee, and bitter notes, followed by less intense cocoa components. The strength is medium-full (4/5).

In the central part, the sapidity remains unchanged, and the initial slight sweetness vanishes. An astringency also appears, which becomes accentuated as the smoke continues, so much so that sips of water are required. The intense aromas of wood and nuts accompany the mineral and bitter notes of the first third. The strength remains stable (4/5).

The flavor profile is confirmed in the last third. The strength increases slightly (4.5/5).

Overall, the Epic Maduro Lancero develops a very particular smoke with a very intense flavor profile and even unusual notes. It’s a shame that the aromas are harsh, and the astringency does not make the smoke easy to manage. Add a strength that is perhaps a little too much on the razor’s edge, especially in the last third.
