The Romeo Y Julieta Añejados Churchills represents an exception in what is the Habanos Añejados line, created to offer new size not present in the regular production of Habanos portfolio. Another peculiarity is the fact that they are the first Añejados released in Tubos.

In late 2014, Habanos SA announced the release of the Añejados (“aged”). The name is due to the aging period to which these cigars are subjected, aged for five to eight years before being marketed.

Aesthetically, the cigar is dressed in an oily Colorado Maduro shaded leaf, spotted and silky to the touch. The band are different from what is usually used. The Churchills indeed has a two band, one bearing the brand and the other the cigar name. In this case, an “old style” gold-colored band is used, as happened a few years ago for the Churchills of Romeo y Julieta, to which in this case a second band bearing the Añejados name was also applied.

Romeo Y Julieta Añejados Churchills: hints of cocoa and hazelnut in the cold draw. The opening continues on cocoa.

It releases notes of cocoa and hazelnut. There is also a spicy component of very suave white pepper present, almost imperceptible, which accompanies the puffs in the background. Strength is medium (3/5).

In the central section, cocoa and hazelnut remain the protagonists. The spicy component takes on a little more vigor, but remains in the aftertaste. Now there is also a vegetable vein. Halfway through the cigar, the spices become more structured and cinnamon nuances emerge. Strength remains constant (3/5).

Nuts move into the foreground. Now a mix of walnut and hazelnut, dominated by the latter, takes over. The spices remain present in the aftertaste and their intensity grows again, culminating in hot spices. The vegetal notes are kept in the background. Balsamic notes appear as well towards the finish. Strength increases slightly (3.5/5).

More refined than the regular version, the Romeo Y Julieta Añejados Churchills stands out for its complexity and for a much broader flavor profile than its regular production counterpart. Excellent cigar and, without doubt, the best release of the Añejados line to date.
