The Matilde Renacer Robusto is one of the four sizes of the Renacer line by Matilde Cigars. Renacer is a Spanish term that can be translated as “rebirth”, as the line, in 2014, was born as the return to the world of cigars by Jose A. Seijas, master blender of Tabacalera de Garcia for many years, but who had been working in the sector since 1974. The line thus launched offered cigars with a brown band. However, after launching other lines in 2019, it was decided to rebrand by realigning Renacer’s graphic style to that of the other Oscura, Quadrata, and Serena lines. Currently, the cigars are sold in 20-ct boxes.

Matilde Renacer Robusto

Visually, it is wrapped in a shiny Colorado leaf with brown reflections. It is slightly rough to the touch, with grain present but not too pronounced. The construction is good, but the draw is somewhat open.

Matilde Renacer Robusto: aromas of earth and nuts are perceptible in the cold draw, enriched by woody nuances.

Matilde Renacer Robusto 3

Once lit, the smoke appears sapid in the mouth, with a slight sweet nuance. It expresses vegetal, spicy, and nutty notes. Strength is medium (3/5).

In the central section, the sweetness disappears, while a woody aroma joins the nuts, as well as spicy and earthy nuances. The strength grows, becoming medium-full (4/5).

Nothing changes in the last third in terms of flavors or strength (4/5). The cigar settles on a triptych of wood, earth, and nuts, all of equal intensity.

Overall, the Matilde Renacer Robusto is an interesting cigar. It is not particularly complex to smoke, but it is capable of offering a fair amount of evolution. Sometimes, however, it also appears a little rustic, and despite this, the strength sometimes overpowers the aromas that are somewhat limited in number.
