The Hoyo de Monterrey Souvenir de Luxe is the latest addition to the Linea Retro, joining the Romeo y Julieta Club Kings, the Partagas Capitols, and the H. Upmann Regalias. They all share the same Marevas size and are packaged in metal tins.
Initially announced in 2019, it didn’t arrive in stores until early 2023.
The cigars are dressed in Colorado wrappers, with some having a mid-sized vein running across it. Construction is good, but the wrapper is rolled a bit loosely on some examples.

Hoyo de Monterrey Souvenir de Luxe: the cold draw reveals aromas of hay and light spices. Once lit, it opens with hazelnut and sourdough notes.
The hazelnut and sourdough notes are the primary flavors, joined by wood and cream. The strength is medium-light (2/5).
The smoke becomes creamier in the second third, and the profile is confirmed. Strength increases slightly, coming just a bit short of medium (2.5/5).
There is not much changing in the last third in terms of flavors. The strength increases further and is now a solid medium (3/5).
Overall, the Hoyo de Monterrey Souvenir de Luxe is well-balanced, with the flavor being well-perceptible. It is an approachable and ready smoke. That being said, the range of flavors is limited, and the smoke is linear from beginning to end.
