Cavalier Genève Limited Edition 2020

Cavalier Genève Limited Edition 2020 1600 900 Michel Arlia

The Cavalier Genève Limited Edition 2020 is the third release in the LE line up of the brand. First released in 2018, the first two launches shared the same size (Robusto Gordo), although the shape was different. The 2018 was round, while the 2019 release was box-pressed.

Things were changed up for the 2020 release quite a bit. First, the cigar comes in a box-pressed Toro size, and secondly, this might be the biggest change of all, the cigar is made in the barber pole style. The barber pole style refers to how the wrappers, two, in fact, are applied, showcasing both types of tobacco that are usually of different shades.

Another small change is that the second band, with the Limited Edition 2020 lettering on it, is white this time and not gold how it was in the past years. The only thing all three releases have in common is that they come in 10-count boxes. This release is limited to a total of 1,000 boxes.

Cavalier Geneve LE 2020

The barber pole style makes the cigar stand out and is a testament to the great craftsmanship that went into creating this cigar. The more visible wrapper is of a Maduro color and has a light amount of tooth to it but overall is quite smooth. Since there isn’t much of the second wrapper visible, the only thing of note is it’s Colorado shade.

Cavalier Geneve LE 2020

Cavalier Genève Limited Edition 2020: the cold draw brings faint notes of earth and nuts to the palate. Once the foot of the cigar is toasted, it opens with light notes of earth, wood, and spices

Cavalier Geneve LE 2020

Further into the first third, the profile brings fleeting aromas of earth, hazelnut, and white pepper to the palate. The smoke is round and balanced. Strength is on the lighter side of the scale (2/5).

Transitioning into the second third, things begin to pick up. Hints of cappuccino and leather join the main combination of earth, wood, and hazelnut. In terms of flavor intensity, the cigar has picked up quite a bit. Strength has also increased to a medium body (3/5).

The last third sees the cappuccino morph into more of an espresso note, and the black pepper takes the place of the white pepper. Earth, wood, and leather are still present. The cigar grows in intensity and strength (4/5).

Overall, the Cavalier Genève Limited Edition 2020 might start slow, but it is a cigar in a constant crescendo. It builds up third by third, constantly adding or changing something while managing to stay balanced and round throughout the entire smoking time. While it is not as complex and unique as the 2019 release (which placed second in our awards of 2019), it is definitely worth hunting down.
