E.P. Carrillo’s Essence series, featuring Sumatra and Maduro, is now being sent to retailers. As per Ernesto Perez-Carrillo, the company’s founder, each line in the series aims to highlight a distinct wrapper. Both cigars are crafted at Casa Carrillo in the Dominican Republic.
The Sumatra line is made with an Ecuador Sumatra wrapper over two binder leaves (one from Nicaragua and the other from Honduras), along with a blend of fillers from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. The Maduro line features a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, a Honduran binder, and Nicaraguan filler.
Both lines come packaged in boxes of 24 and are available in three sizes with corresponding price points: a 50 x 127 mm (5”) Robusto — $9.25, a 52 x 152 mm (6”) — $10 Toro, and a 60 x 152 mm (6”) Gordo — $10.75.
Each box contains a QR code that links to a webpage providing information about the cigar, as well as a questionnaire designed to match consumers with a cigar in the E.P. Carrillo collection.
Planned releases of further lines in the Essence Series are scheduled for the next two to three years.
