The Villiger Miami 2023 Cañonazo is a limited edition cigar from the Miami line of the brand, which features a different cigar each year. The series was first introduced in 2022 with two offerings, whereas the 2023 edition includes a single product in the Cañonazo vitola. This edition has an initial release of 1,000 boxes.

In comparison to the original two vitolas, which features cigars made with Dominican tobacco for the filler and binder and an Ecuadorian wrapper, very little information has been shared about the blend for the 2023 version. It has been officially confirmed that the cigar includes an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, along with Peruvian tobaccos in the filler. However, the specific mix of other leaves used remains unknown. The cigars are sold in boxes of 10 units.

The brightness of the rings immediately captures the eye, with predominant gold and blue tones. The wrapper is of a shiny Colorado tone, featuring golden reflections that feel smooth and has minimal veins. The construction is excellent, and the filling appears generous. However, the draw is slightly open.

Villiger Miami 2023 Cañonazo: in the cold draw, notes of wood and nuts are perceptible, followed by nuances of hay.

Once lit, the smoke in the mouth appears sapid, with a slight astringency. It presents marked hints of wood and nuts, followed by notes that recall damp earth. The strength is medium-full (4/5).

In the central section, the sapidity is confirmed, but the astringency is not. The nutty component of the first third explodes and amplifies, returning very intense notes of hazelnut and Brazilian nut, followed by less evident aromas of wood and damp earth. The strength remains unchanged (4/5).

In the last third, next to the unchanged sapidity, a bitter component appears that grows towards the end of the smoke. The wood becomes more robust, becoming equal to the Brazilian nut, on a base of damp earth—unchanged strength (4/5).

Overall, the Villiger Miami 2023 Cañonazo delivers a moderately complex smoking experience, with a strong emphasis on nutty flavors and their various nuances. While the strength is consistent, it remains balanced in relation to the intensity of the flavors. However, the cigar falls short in terms of evolution; it primarily focuses on redistributing the existing aromas rather than introducing new ones. Additionally, some bitterness, along with a sense of monotony at the finish, detracts from the overall rating.
