The H. Upmann 180th Anniversary cigars have arrived in stores in the USA, slightly delayed from the original schedule. This marks H. Upmann’s 180th birthday, and the cigars were initially planned for release in June. Shipments of the new cigars will leave the company’s Florida warehouse on Monday.
The cigars come in one size, which is a Churchill measuring 50 x 178 mm (7”) and are manufactured in Nicaragua by A.J. Fernandez. Similarly to the H. Upmann 175th Anniversary cigar, the 180th is a collaborative effort between Fernandez and Rafael Nodal, vice president of product capability for Tabacalera USA, Altadis USA’s parent company.
An interesting feature of this all-Nicaraguan cigar is its medio tiempo wrapper grown from a hybrid seed. Medio tiempo is a classification of small leaves that sometimes grow on the very top of a tobacco plant and are valued for their strength.
Each H. Upmann 180th Anniversary is priced at $22.50 per cigar and comes in 10-count boxes, with only 5,000 boxes being produced.
In addition to the cigar release, an anniversary humidor containing 50 H. Upmann 180th Anniversary Toros (measuring 50 x 152 mm – 6”) has been released as well. The humidors are priced at $1,500 each, with only 180 units being produced.
