The first third delivers cocoa and nuts, with the hazelnut standing out. There is also an intense aroma of seasoned wood in the background—black pepper in the aftertaste. The strength is medium (3/5).
The second third confirms the cocoa and the hazelnut. There is no change in terms of strength as well.
The flavor profile turns completely in the final third of the cigar: the hazelnut is gone, but there is now a rich note of walnut present. Cocoa is replaced by earth. The strength increases a little (3.5/5).
Overall, the Rocky Patel Sun Grown Maduro Lancero is a well-balanced cigar with a decent evolution, mainly perceivable in the transition from the second to the last third. The flavor profile is not the broadest in terms of the number of aromas, though the balance is excellent.
