Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Reserve No.2

Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Reserve No.2 1600 900 Michel Arlia

The Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Reserve No. 2 is a cigar made in the Dominican Republic. Specifically, the Don Carlos line is a tribute to Carlos Fuente Sr., father of Carlos Fuente Jr., who has now taken over the reins of the company. Don Carlos’ favorite band leaf was the Cameroon, grown in Africa. Carlito told us that his father used to say that a Cameroon leaf goes well to almost any cigar, and it is one of the most versatile tobacco leaves. The size of this pyramid is slightly larger than what is usually seen on the market, due to the more generous ring gauge (55 compared to the classic 52).

Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Reserve No.2: scents of wood and cocoa on the cold draw. The first few puffs delivers a rich mix of earth and seasoned wood.

The first third continues on the aromas of seasoned wood and earth, enriched now by hints of cocoa. Strength is medium (3/5).

The middle section is mainly woody. The wood flavor is seasoned and very refined. In the background, the cocoa is still perceivable in some puffs. Strength grows a little (3.5/5).

In the finale third, the cocoa aroma takes the place of the wood one. There are now notes of spices, that get richer and richer getting closer to the finale, where they culminate in piquant peaks. Strength is now medium to full (4/5), ending the smoke in a satisfying way.

Overall, the Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Reserve No.2 delivers a very harmonious and balanced flavor profile. The complexity is decent and the ending is satisfying.
